Tall Girls Self Centered?

I was recently conversing with a blogger via email and in his opinion, he thought that tall girls were self centered in making the decision to wear heels.

He stated "tall girls that wear heels are only thinking about their own comfort and not those around them".

Well! It is a different way to look at tall girls wearing heels BUT I am not sure if I agree.

Am I allowed to say that? :-/

I guess in our making the decision to wear heels it could make others be uncomfortable but should we be living our lives to make those comfortable around us or to remain comfortable in our own skin?

I would like some insight on this from others.

Meeting Other Tall Girls and Fans

This blog has really brought some tall girls out of the wood works!

Thank you for all of the emails and smiles!

Most recently, I met Shani (her picture is posted). She seems so excited to see all of the resources available to tall girls. She also mentioned a tall girl group on facebook.

I have not been able to locate it as of yet but if she says it is there then I am going to take her word for it.

Also, after my nagging about it, I managed to get Steve Harvey, a famous black comedian, to give tall girls a shout out over the air :) It was brief but greatly appreciated!

My goal is to soon create an information sharing forum and really watch tall girls work together in showing their appreciation for height with others (to include the younger tall girls).

I am enjoying getting the word out about the beautiful women gifted with height.

Thanks again for the kind words!

Tall Girl Article Alert - 010509

Ladies,

I was surfing the web as usual awhile back and forgot to share with you Rebecca Thomas' "Life as a Tall Girl" article.

It is a fun read and there are over 600 comments from tall girls and admirers.

My favorite comment was from a 6th grader in India that identifies herself as being a tall girl. She is the second tallest in her class. I thought that was simply adorable!

When you get a chance you should check out the article. It was published by the New York Times and can be found on Tinitiative.org (non profit) website.

http://www.tinitiative.org/index_files/Page362.htm

If there are any of you that have a story to tell and want it featured on the blog for discussion purposes, do not hesitate to let me know.

We all can learn from one another!

The Blind Date / Tall Conversation

Over the holiday, I decided to have a blind date.

I did not know the height of the guy so that made it even more of a mystery; however, to my surprise he was 6'2". This was surprising because most of the men attracted to me are 5'4" to 5'10" (or so).

I wonder how I would have responded if he was 5'4". It is been a long time since I dated a 5'4" man.

Nevertheless, the date was going well until he begin to ask a million (maybe a billion) questions about my height. Where it came from? Do I like it? etc.

The conversation about height took over the evening, leaving me with little information about him.

I guess I will have to keep trying and hopefully he does not use height as the ice breaker in the future unless he risks boring me to death. ha!

Resolutions Anyone? Happy New Year, Tall Girls!

Time is going by so fast!

Have you decided to do something different for the new year and years to come tall girl?

I have decided to continue adding to the literature on tall girls.

My goal is to create a safe place for young tall girls to come and discuss matters associated with being a tall girl.

So far my efforts have not gone ignored. I know one tall girl that has decided to create her own blog after gaining motivation from this one. I think that is a wonderful idea!

The more the merrier! The idea is to help one another cope and make wise decisions.

Decisions that reflect that we are comfortable in our TALL skin.

Happy New Years to you all and many many more to come.

PS. Proceeds from the book "The Tall Girl Experience: A Short Book for Young Tall Girls" goes to tall girl mentoring efforts. So, buy 1 book and another goes to a young tall girl for free!

Tall Girls & Bad Attitudes?

In reading one of the responses to whether short guys are intimidated by tall girls, I stumbled on a comment that said, tall girls are mean.

Do you think tall girls are mean to each other or to boys/men that are shorter?

In cases where I have been firm (I prefer to say rather then mean) was when the guy or person did not get the hint and follows me around trying to hold a conversation.

My hints blatantly say or show that I am not interested in talking to him/her but some people just do not get it. In the person not getting it, firmness becomes most appropriate (and works for me).

Other then that, I don't bother being firm because it is easier to simply move away from the person.

What do you think? What have you done when a shorter guy that you were not interested in kept chasing you around town or the nightclub?

Tall with Short or Long Hair?

I was visiting a fellow tall girl blog and she was having a brief conversation about her new hair cut (which I think is very cute!). But, she ignited the topic of hair.

I told her that short hair makes me feel sassy...lol

Long hair fits my long narrow face but I think short hair can be very fun. And, in some cases compliment the face of some tall girls.

The way I combat my different likes with hair length, is to wear short in the summer and long in the winter.

It works! What about you, tall girl?

Seasons Greetings!

Yup! I am still around.

This holiday season has been quite busy for me but not so busy where I could not find the time to check in and share a tall girl experience.

For the Thanksgiving holiday, I decided to visit another state. In leaving Virginia, I temporarily left my comfort zone as I knew it.

While visiting others far away from home, the confidence of a tall girl can really be tested. The stares come from different eyes and you are tasked with trying to fit in the new environment, along with trying to enjoy the time spent with others.

There is no place to run (like home). As I have gotten older, I have really began to notice the comfort I get in being able to go home, getting away from the stares and questions.

Nevertheless, during the holiday season, sometimes we have to step out of our comfort zone and enjoy the time spent with those we care the most about.

Happy (remaining) Holidays!!

Happy Turkey Day!

For those that celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to wish you a Happy Turkey Day.

I am heading to the beautiful state of South Carolina to be with some family and friends.

If you do not celebrate Turkey Day, then I still wish you a super week!

For the Christmas season I am hoping to have the tall girl handbook published and ready for reviews or sharing.

Remember you can go back and post comments to others who may have visited the blog. This is a place for sharing!

I'll be back! (said in her best Arnold S. voice)....teehee

Family and Height

It is that season again where we spend a great deal of time with family / love ones.

In being with my family, I am reminded of where I get my height. My father is 6 foot 9 inches and my mother is 5 foot 8 inches (which is tall for a girl).

Then there is my grandmother who is 5 foot 4 inches (average height for a woman).

My sister and brother are about 5 foot 11 inches.

So when I am with family, the topic of height usually does not come up because it is all in the family.

Can you relate?

Tall Girls as Giants and Amazons

The discussion of how tall girls feel about being called giants and amazons has come up on the blog.

What are your thoughts ladies?

I, personally, am desensitized to the many names people call tall girls; therefore I don't really have an opinion at this time.

BUT

When I was younger, I actually played into the words as a means of feeling accepted. I would say things such as, "I am a giant", just to ease the tension of the many comments and stares.

Can any of you relate to this?

Just how healthy was my approach to feel accepted?

Wearing High Heels

In a recent comment I reviewed, a blog vistor stated he liked to date tall girls who wear heels.

What are your thoughts tall girls?

Do you like to wear heels or is your preference sneakers (tennis shoes) and flats?

I, personally, enjoy various shoe types. Of course I can not wear heels while going for a run. So, I do have a couple of pairs of tennis shoes; however, I have many more heels than I do anything else.

I love high heel sandals. The inches vary from 2 to 4. Anything higher than 4 inches, I think I become accident prone...lol

The Gender Question - Is that a girl or a guy?

Why exactly do some people think that tall girls are men before they are identified as a girl or woman?

I have been told that this is the million dollar question!

But, with the forever changing world, I can understand the thought being considered but why not take a tall girl for face value?

Why does she possibly have to be a female impersonator just because she is tall?

This dynamic continues to amuse me because thoughts of the sort can really put a damper on an attempt to court a tall girl.

I have become so bold to ask if the person thought that I was initially a man pretending to be woman. Crazy huh?

Nope! It actually opens up the conversation, getting the discussion about height out of the way.

I am one of those keep it forward-thinking people...lol.. when thinking of a man to date, I don't want to spend a great deal of time talking about being a woman and how I got to be so tall.

Especially since no one is asking the average height women, how did they get so average. Does this make any sense?

Do you think tall girls intimidate men/boys?

Based on some of my experiences, I can say that some men are intimidated by my height.

For example, in going out with friends, I have noticed men pacing the room to build the confidence to approach me.

I know it seems arrognant to say this but I really believe it. I believe that some men never really build the confidence to approach tall girls; therefore, they never get to experience the many other things we offer, as women.

That said, maybe it is not confidence that holds the men back. Maybe, they question the born gender of the tall girl. There are some cases where there are tall girls that were not born female.

But, that is not the question at hand.

I want to know do you (tall girl) think that your height intimidates men/boys?

FYI: De-Fen Yao is the Tallest Woman in the World

Height is a gift but sometimes it is the result of some other condition.

This is why it is important that you discuss with your doctor any experienced pains (if any).

De-Fen, the tallest woman in the world at 7 foot 9 inches, has Acromegaly – a disease resulting from a tumour on the pituitary gland causing it to pump out excess growth hormone.

Doctors specializing in Acromegaly have offered to help De-Fen by raising money for her recovery and future.
*This post is dedicated to De-Fen specifically; however, you can expect future posts in reference to health and tall girls.

Do you date or like shorter guys?

Ok ladies

I was chatting with some pals online and the topic of tall women dating shorter men came up.

I am one that dates a man of any height; however, the guys that were a part of the discussion said that tall women won't even look their way.

Specifically, my pal Paul said "tall women are stuck up and limit their opportunities to have fun because of their height criterias placed on men".

What are your thoughts tall girls?

Does Paul know what he is talking about or is he just a bitter man??

Share your stories, ladies.

How have friendships helped you cope with being a tall girl?

I did not have many friends until reaching college so my struggle with height was internal for many years.

My mother did her best in trying to extend friendship to me but it simply was not the same as having a friend that was a peer.

Do any of you tall girls have a story to share in reference to how a friend has helped you deal or cope with your height?

I would love to read about it.

Fans of Tall Girls

In thinking about the tall girl experience and reading Jheri's comment about the importance of friendships, I thought I would create a post for those who were fans of tall girls.

There is a place for you in the scheme of things.

Why?

Because, there are some cases where tall girls get their support from those that are not tall or those that see more than height. They see, a bright, witty, and approachable person.

My bestfriend is a 5'10" male and he loves my height. Not only does he loves my height, he thinks that I am funny and fun to be around. Many times when I was not feeling my best, it was my bestfriend that was there to lift my spirits. He is not a tall girl but I am sure he will have a mouthful to say about why he adore tall girls.

So, all of you tall girl fans, feel free to share with us your thoughts or reasons as to why you appreciate the tall girls' gift of height.

We appreciate you!

Tall Girls and Sports

Sarah, you made a comment asking if I played sports.

Yes! But, it was a means to an end. I wanted to go to college and the only way I was going to get there was to play sports (while making sure my grades were good).

I decided to play volleyball versus basketball. The contact required in basketball made me uncomfortable. In addition, I wanted to go against the grain and not play what everyone wanted me to play.

I was not sure which sport was going to take me to college so I did track, vball, and basketball.

Any other tall girl want to talk about their experience with sports?

Why I like being tall

When I was younger (under 20 years old), I thought my height was a curse. Now that I am older, I love it!

I am 6 foot 3 inches barefoot. I am taller than the average tall girl. And, I love to wear heels.

So on some days I will be 6 foot 7 inches. Can you imagine that??!!???

My father is 6 foot 9 inches explaining where I got my height.

I enjoy that people simply do not bother me. I have a very drama free life because in many cases I am intimidating to most. So, I love that my height makes people back off with the silly games that people play with one another each day.

What do you love about being tall?
