Sarah, you made a comment asking if I played sports.
Yes! But, it was a means to an end. I wanted to go to college and the only way I was going to get there was to play sports (while making sure my grades were good).
I decided to play volleyball versus basketball. The contact required in basketball made me uncomfortable. In addition, I wanted to go against the grain and not play what everyone wanted me to play.
I was not sure which sport was going to take me to college so I did track, vball, and basketball.
Any other tall girl want to talk about their experience with sports?

I'm 190 cm, which is your height pretty much. I'm very thin and not very coordinated, so I stayed away from sports in school. I think that was a mistake as they can help you build confidence, but I was not the most enlightened person in the world back then.
Now I'm 25 and I ride my bike everywhere (I live in Denmark and don't own a car) and run for about an hour every morning. I'm probably addicted to the running and do it in all weather including snowstorms.
One of my best friends is 2 meters tall and is a gifted athlete. She lives in the US and did baseball, basketball and volleyball in school. This gave her enormous confidence and a chance to go to college on an athletic scholarship.
Team sports aren't for everyone - certainly not me - but doing something is very important. Particularly for tall women.
Jheri - I agree! Staying active is very important for us tall girls.
I appreciate you sharing your experience. Feel free to come back and share anything else that comes to mind about the challenges of being a tall girl.
Your experience is different from those that take the sports route.
You say you like to bike, in biking does that hurt your knees or back? Just curious.
I spend a great deal of time swimming. I find it to be a great stress reliever now that I no longer play volleyball.
Jheri - I like to bike ride too! I ride back and forth to work because it is a great way to get in some excersice.
Also, when I bike ride I can clear my head before starting my day.
jherii you are lucky to have tall friends. I wish I had more tall firends. All my friends are short and they do not understand my height.
I get upset about it too.
My friend is in the US and nine timezones away, so we don't exactly see each other face to face all the time. Most of my other friends, male and female, are shorter than me, but that is about the last thing I think about.
After we get used to each other our heights become private jokes. I just haven't met that many tall women and I'm pretty choosy about my friends once I've met them. My tallest friend is an amazing person and I'd be her friend in a second no matter how tall she was.
My first bikes never really fit right and I ended up getting one with a custom frame. My arms and legs are long, but my torso is short for my height. It cost a lot, but since I don't have a car I tell myself I'm saving a lot of money. I *love* it and it gets very heavy use!

Is it hard to have friends that far away?
They are sleep when you are awake.
I have no interest in sports and I am tall. I like art.
I simply hate sports but I enjoy running for lesuire.
I'm 6 foot. I play basketball, volleyball, softball, and hockey. I'm hoping I'll be able to play basketball in university!
